As a newborn and maternity photographer based in Morganville, New Jersey, I have had the joy of working with hundreds of families during one of the most meaningful seasons of their lives. Morganville is just a short drive from Staten Island, which makes it easy for me to serve clients throughout Central Jersey and the greater New York area.
After more than a decade photographing babies, moms, and growing families, I’ve seen which baby products show up in homes again and again. These are items that truly make a difference during those early weeks and months.
This list is a follow-up to my first post with my original favorite products for new moms and babies. In this one, I’m sharing six more helpful items that can make your daily routine smoother and more comfortable.
Although I mention specific brands that parents love, there are plenty of great options at all price ranges. If you’re looking to save, check out secondhand options on websites like goodbuygear.com. Many of these items hold up very well and are just as helpful when purchased gently used.
1. Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump
This simple, affordable item is a favorite among breastfeeding moms. The Haakaa suctions onto the opposite side while you’re nursing and collects milk without any effort. It’s a great way to build a freezer stash or save milk that would otherwise be lost in a nursing pad.
2. Hatch Rest Sound Machine and Night Light
Sleep is everything during the newborn phase. The Hatch Rest is a combination white noise machine, night light, and toddler time-to-rise clock all in one. It is app-controlled, which makes it easy to adjust without disturbing baby, and it grows with your child.
3. Lovevery Play Gym
This is one of the most beautiful and thoughtfully designed play gyms out there. It includes high-contrast images, sensory toys, and Montessori-style features to support early development. Parents love it, and it looks great in any room.
4. Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter
If you are nursing, this soothing balm can be a lifesaver in those early days. It is made with safe, organic ingredients and offers much-needed relief. Even if you are not breastfeeding, it is gentle enough to use on dry or sensitive skin.
5. Zip-Up or Velcro Swaddles
Swaddling helps babies feel secure and sleep more soundly, but learning how to wrap a swaddle with a blanket can be tricky. Brands like Halo and SwaddleMe make zip-up and Velcro swaddles that are easy to use, even during middle-of-the-night changes.
6. Portable Changing Pad
A foldable, wipeable changing pad is a must-have for life on the go. Keep one in your diaper bag or car so you are always prepared. Some even come with storage pockets for diapers and wipes, making diaper changes much more convenient wherever you are.
As a New Jersey photographer who specializes in maternity and newborn sessions, I love supporting moms beyond the camera. These product recommendations come from years of experience and feedback from real families, and I share them in hopes of making your life a little easier.
Please note that I have no affiliation with any of these brands. I simply enjoy passing along helpful tools and tips that I have seen make a difference.
If you are expecting a baby, adjusting to life with a newborn, or just want to capture your beautiful growing family, I would love to work with you.
